Kodros for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

This page covers Kodros version 1.3 on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The app is free, every feature is included, and there's no account to create.

The iPhone app was previously called Kodros, and before that Kodros. It may still show an earlier name until the next update.

The next build of the app adds a Kodros account: you sign in with your email and a 6-digit code, the app keeps only your account email to sign you in, and you can delete the account in the app. That build is not in TestFlight yet; until it ships, the facts on this page describe the current build.

  • Effective date: . Version 1.3.
  • Free

You can chat with a model that runs on the iPhone, or you can connect an assistant you run yourself. The download time depends on your connection. If you're stuck after the steps below, email contact@meshvault.ai.

Getting started

  • On this iPhone: open Settings, then On-device models, and download a model. The file is about 1 GB to 2.3 GB, depending on the device. Use Wi-Fi for that download. Once it's ready, chats run with no network. You need a recent iPhone or iPad. The larger model needs 8 GB of memory, and the smaller one needs 6 GB.
  • With your own assistant: Kodros works with a Hermes Agent gateway you run at home or on your tailnet. The steps are under Connect your assistant, below.
  • Natural voice: open Settings, then Voice. Download the natural voice, about 330 MB, or pick an eligible Apple voice that's already installed. If neither is available, replies stay as text. Speech recognition runs on your device.

Connect your assistant

  1. Turn on the API server in your Hermes Agent gateway. The setting is gateway.api_server, and the default port is 8642. Then set API_SERVER_KEY.
  2. In Kodros, tap Connect, then Add connection. Enter the Address, for example http://my-computer:8642, and the Access key for the default profile. Names are optional.
  3. Tap Test connection, then Save, then Agree on the privacy sheet. That sheet says your assistant may forward your messages to its AI providers.

Other Hermes profiles live at /p/<profile>/ on the same gateway, and each one has its own key. If the computer isn't on your home network, use the Tailscale name that ends in .ts.net.

Connection problems

  • Offline: the phone can't reach that address. Check that the gateway is running, and that the phone is on the same network or the same tailnet.
  • Access key rejected: the key doesn't match that profile's API_SERVER_KEY. Open Settings, then Connection, and enter it again.
  • Local network: if iOS asked for local network access and you said no, turn it on in Settings, Privacy and Security, Local Network.
  • Home shows nothing: Home needs your own Home Assistant. Add its address and a long-lived access token in the Home tab. If the server isn't on your home network, use its Tailscale name.

Privacy controls

  • Face ID lock: open Settings, then Privacy, then Require Face ID. While it's on, the app asks for Face ID or your passcode, and Siri does too. Live Activities leave out the reply text, and chats stay out of iPhone Search.
  • Show chats in Search: this switch is in Settings, then Privacy. It's off until you turn it on. It adds titles and short previews of recent chats, up to 60 for each assistant, to iPhone Search on your device. Turning it off removes them.
  • Delete your data: removing an assistant in Settings deletes its keys from this iPhone. Remove assistant connections and your Home Assistant token before you uninstall. Deleting the app removes local app storage, but iOS may keep Keychain items. We don't hold a copy.
  • Read the full privacy policy.

Apple Watch, widgets and Siri

  • Apple Watch: install the watch app from the Watch app on your iPhone. It talks through the iPhone, so keep the phone nearby.
  • Widgets and Control Center: add the Kodros widget from the Home Screen or the Lock Screen. Add the Talk and New chat controls from Control Center.
  • Siri and Shortcuts: say "Ask Kodros" or "Talk to Kodros".

Cost

Kodros is free, and every feature is included. There are no in-app purchases and no subscription. What you pay to run your own assistant, or to the providers it uses, is separate.
