Summary
Kodros is free. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We collect nothing. The on-device model processes chats on your phone and does not upload them. Local chats and other app data may still enter device backups, according to your Apple and device settings. When you chat with an assistant you set up, your messages go straight to that assistant. They do not come to us.
Scope
This policy covers Kodros version 1.3 for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, published by thefiredev-cloud. The app is free. It has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. It talks to an open-source model on your device, or to an assistant you run yourself, such as a Hermes Agent gateway. Kodros is an independent app. It is not affiliated with Nous Research, Home Assistant, Tailscale, or Hugging Face.
What we collect
We do not collect personal information through the app. There is no account to create. The app has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking, and no crash-reporting code. We do not run servers that receive your messages, files, voice, settings, or chat titles.
What stays on your device
- Assistant connections: the app saves each connection's name, address, and profile names in the app's storage on your device.
- Access keys: the app saves each key in the iOS Keychain on your device only. It does not sync that key to other devices.
- Home Assistant: if you add your own Home Assistant, the app saves its address, and it saves the access token in the Keychain.
- Preferences: theme, text size and chat display settings.
- Chats: on-device chat sessions and full transcripts, plus a protected cache of your gateway session lists and recent message bodies. The gateway cache stores up to 160 recent messages for each cached session, so chat history can open before your assistant answers.
- Model and voice files: the files you download are saved in the app's storage and are excluded from backups.
- Briefing alerts: the app remembers which scheduled results it has already told you about.
- Search in iPhone Search: this stays off until you turn on Show chats in Search in Settings. When it is on, the app adds the titles and short previews of recent chats, up to 60 for each assistant, to the search index on your device. Those titles and previews are never sent to us. The app removes them when you delete a chat, remove an assistant, turn the setting off, or turn on the Face ID lock. It does not add them while the Face ID lock is on.
- Apple Watch: the watch app shows state that your iPhone sends it over Apple's WatchConnectivity. It has no network connection of its own.
Local transcripts, cached gateway messages and other app data can be included in device backups according to your Apple and device settings. The app does not upload them to Kodros. Downloaded model and voice folders are excluded from backups.
Removing an assistant in the app deletes its keys from the Keychain. Deleting the app removes its local app storage, but iOS may keep Keychain items. If you want those credentials gone, remove your assistant connections and your Home Assistant token in the app before you uninstall.
What goes to your assistant
When you chat with an assistant you set up, the app sends your messages, and any photos, files, or dictated text you choose to attach, directly to the address you entered. Before the first message, the app shows a privacy sheet and asks you to agree. Siri and Shortcuts requests, voice mode, and the app's checks for new briefings use the same connection. Your chat history, tools, memory, and scheduled tasks live with that assistant, under your control. What your assistant does with that data, including which AI providers it calls, depends on how you set it up. We never receive it.
On-device model and voice
If you download an on-device model (Qwen3) or the natural voice (Kokoro), the app downloads the files from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). Hugging Face receives an ordinary download request, including your IP address, under its own privacy policy. The model download is about 1 GB to 2.3 GB, depending on your device. The voice download is about 330 MB.
Chats with the on-device model, speech recognition, and the natural voice all run on your device. The app does not send what you say or type in that mode to us or to Hugging Face. Device backups are separate, as described above. When the natural voice is unavailable, an eligible installed Apple voice may read replies aloud. If none is available, replies remain text. Open Settings, then Voice, to download the natural voice or choose an eligible Apple voice.
Home Assistant
Home is optional. If you add your own Home Assistant, the app sends requests directly to the server address you enter, using your token, and it turns devices on and off by calling that server. Those requests do not go through Kodros servers, and we never receive that data. The server's hosting, connection path, and integrations, including any cloud services they use, depend on your setup. The app tells you whether the path to your server is a Tailscale connection, a plain local connection, or unverified.
Permissions
- Local network: to reach an assistant or Home Assistant on your home network or tailnet.
- Camera and photos: only when you take or pick a photo to send. Saving an image to your library happens only when you choose Save Image.
- Microphone and speech recognition: only while you dictate or use voice mode. The app turns speech into text on your device before you send it, and your voice is never sent to a server.
- Face ID: only to unlock the app when you turn on the lock. Face ID data stays with iOS. The app learns only whether it matched.
- Notifications and background refresh: only if you allow them, so the app can tell you when a briefing from your assistant is ready. The app checks your assistant itself. No push service and no third party are involved.
- Live Activities: show the progress of a running reply on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. They are created on your device. With the Face ID lock on, they leave the reply text off.
Cost
Kodros is free, and every feature is included. It has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. It never asks for payment details.
Children
Kodros is a general-purpose assistant for people who set up their own AI. It is not directed to children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
